Mayor Menino Issues RFQ for Ferdinand Building in Dudley Square, Roxbury

Apr 04, 2011

The City of Boston Public Facilities Department has publicly advertised a Request for Designer Qualifications for a 125,000 to 175,000 square foot municipal office building at the site of the historic former Ferdinand’s Furniture building in Dudley Square. Mayor Menino is focused on attracting design teams that bring an approach to design that includes an understanding of cost-effective, green building, and that incorporates local community engagement. The site itself is about 2/3 of an acre, located next to the Dudley Station, and is in the heart of Roxbury, which is roughly the City of Boston’s geographic center. In addition to the construction jobs that will come from a project of this size, approximately 400 municipal workers would be relocated to the new facility, which should spur the economic revitalization that has been envisioned for the Dudley Square area.
