Find Out if You Qualify
The BPDA works with developers to create housing opportunities for a range of incomes. Income guidelines vary by development, but most BPDA opportunities are available to renters with incomes up to 70% and homebuyers with incomes up to 100% of area median income (AMI).
To see if you might qualify for BPDA affordable housing opportunities, please consult the chart below. If your income is not within this range, we encourage you to contact some of the many other housing opportunities within Boston, listed on our Other Affordable Housing Resources page.
Please be aware that an Income Certification Process is a required component of application review. The Income Certification Process is coordinated between the applicant and the marketing agent for each respective development. To estimate your own income, download the Income Calculation Package. This package includes instructions, a worksheet, a manual form, and examples. (The Zip folder will download directly to your computer.) Note that the Income Calculation Worksheet is intended for informational purposes only. Calculation results do not constitute approval for affordable housing.

Compact Living Policy
In late 2018, the BPDA and the City of Boston initiated a Compact Living Pilot. Under this program, income restricted units meeting compact living guidelines have lower rents/sales prices. Units that were previously described as "micro" units now fall under this policy.
