Article 89 Comprehensive Farm Review
Comprehensive Farm Review is an administrative review process conducted by the Planning Department in order to ensure that Urban Farms and Farm Structures are sited and designed in a manner that is sensitive to the surrounding neighborhood and environment. Please note that not all Urban Farms and Farm Structures are subject to Comprehensive Farm Review, and you can view more about the use regulations and requirements in Section 89-6. Urban Farms are allowed or are conditional uses throughout the City of Boston, according to Boston Zoning Code Article 89. Article 89 establishes information required for a complete application for Comprehensive Farm Review, Design Guidelines and Design Requirements relating to items such as materials, perimeter fencing, and lighting, as well as Planning Department and public review periods.
More about the Public Review period:
Once the Planning Department receives a complete application for Comprehensive Farm Review, Planning Department staff notify the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services, the relevant City Councilor and neighborhood association(s), and all abutters. The public comment period lasts 14 days.
Please note that depending on the zoning for the proposed project, the Urban Farm or Farm Structure will be subject to various additional review processes.
