Chain Forge, also known as Building 105, is an approximately 60,000 square foot historic building within a parcel of approximately 75,000 square feet of land in the Charlestown Navy Yard. The Planning Department invites the community to envision the future of this iconic landmark together.

The Request for Proposals (“RFP”) for the redevelopment and long-term ground lease of Chain Forge (Building 105) is now available!
Proposals should include the construction of residential, hotel, institutional, retail, or commercial uses, as well as civic and cultural facilities, while preserving the existing building. Staff appreciate the vast amount of community feedback throughout the drafting process.
The RFP document can be accessed and downloaded through the Procurement Portal, linked here. Please enter your information and a copy of the RFP will be sent to you.
Proposals must be submitted no later than Wednesday, December 3, at 12:00 PM (noon).

The Planning Department held a community meeting on October 29th, 2024 to 1) review the public comments and draft RFP development objectives and 2) present the draft Alternatives for Brownfield Cleanup Analysis ("ABCA") report as part of the application for EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grant.
