On December 19, 2019, the Public Improvement Commission approved the name change of Roxbury’s Dudley Square to Nubian Square after a public hearing. Moving forward, the BPDA will refer to PLAN: Dudley Square as PLAN: Nubian Square, formerly known as PLAN: Dudley Square.
Our next workshop will be held on Februay 24th, where we will discuss the Draft Request for Proposals for Crescent Parcel and Malcolm X & Putnam Parcels.
Our last workshop was held on January 27th, where we discussed Crescent, Malcolm X & Puntam Parcels Urban Design Guidelines as well as the history of Campus High Urban Renewal Plan. For more information, please visit the event page.
On October 7, the Roxbury Strategic Master Plan Oversight Committee recommended the release of three RFPs for Nawn Factory, Parcel 8, and Blair Lot. The request for proposals for Nawn Factory and Blair Lot have now been released and are available for viewing and download. Visit this site for Blair Lot, and this site for Nawn Factory.
On July 11, the BPDA Board voted to approve the PLAN: Dudley Square Process Overview and Guidelines for Development document. It is available for review here.
At the heart of the city and home to the region’s busiest bus station, Nubian Square is a prime corridor for job creation, commerce, and transit-oriented development.
PLAN: Nubian Square will revisit the visions presented in both the Roxbury Strategic Master Plan and Dudley Vision to evaluate if they still align with current community goals. Using these past plans as a framework, PLAN: Nubian Square will offer the City and community the opportunity to think strategically about the types of uses, public realm, and scale of development that are best suited for the future of the area.
This planning effort will create a road map for a streamlined implementation plan for publicly-owned (City/BRA/State) and vacant privately-owned parcels. From this Nubian Square focus, we will work with the community to further expand the discussion to the Roxbury neighborhood at large.
Through open dialogue and community involvement, this study will be used to develop an implementation plan to mobilize development on publicly-owned parcels.
