You're Invited: Maps and Visions of Boston from 1775 - Present

Sep 16, 2013

A City Evolves showcases images and illustrations in map collections that demonstrate historic changes to the City of Boston. The selection of maps focus on Boston’s regional core and three transformative areas: Roxbury, the Greenway and the South Boston Waterfront. The maps tell the story of the changing cityscape over time and are digital reproductions of actual historic maps. The primary goals of the exhibit are to provide examples of the evolution of mapmaking from handmade to digital cartography; to illustrate dramatic changes to the City of Boston; and to showcase the work of the Norman B. Leventhal Map Center, the BRA’s Office of Digital Cartography and GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and the BRA’s Urban Design Technology Group. The BRA, Mayor's Office, and Norman B. Leventhal Map Center at the Boston Public Library invite the public to view the exhibit on the 9th floor of City Hall. Viewing hours are Monday through Friday, 9am - 5pm. mapsandvisionsSept2013 Contributors:
