Mayor Menino Celebrates Ribbon Cutting of Fort Point Hotel

Jul 11, 2013

Mayor Menino celebrated the opening of a new hotel in Fort Point alongside representatives of Norwich Partners and Colliers International. The $50 million Marriott Residence Inn Seaport is the first new hotel in the City of Boston since 2009. The extended stay hotel answers the demand for new mid-priced hotel rooms. The Marriott Residence Inn Seaport, developed by Norwich Partners, is an adaptive reuse of the “Stillings Building,” a Boston Wharf Company warehouse building at 370 Congress Street.  The hotel will provide mid-priced lodging to tourists, business travelers, and families with prices ranging from the $200s to $400s per night. The hotel has 120 extended stay guest rooms featuring a living/working area and kitchen with an average size of between 350 - 550 SF. All of the hotel's artwork on display was made in Fort Point. The Marriott’s location in Fort Point will bring new foot traffic to visit the area’s growing restaurant scene, including restaurants like Tavern Road and Ming Tsai’s Blue Ginger. In addition, its access and proximity to the Innovation District and the Financial District makes it an ideal location for business visitors from across the world. Norwich Partners plans a second 135-room hotel “The Autograph” nearby on Sleeper Street. The project is scheduled to break ground this summer and will be the first parcel of Seaport Square to move forward.
