Description:

The Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) will host a virtual public meeting on November 13, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM to provide a status update on draft zoning recommendations as part of the citywide Squares + Streets initiative.

At this meeting, BPDA staff will present the goals, vision, and recommendations for new Squares + Streets zoning districts to be adopted into the Boston Zoning Code. These proposed zoning districts will support the ongoing work of the Squares + Streets planning initiative and focus on active areas within neighborhood centers and along main streets.

Staff will also present on recommended updates to  the “Regulation of Uses” section of the Boston Zoning Code (Article 8) to better organize and modernize land uses for today’s needs.

The recommendations shared at this meeting will inform a forthcoming draft zoning text amendment to the Boston Zoning Code that will allow for a mix of building uses and heights, promote housing diversity and opportunity, and encourage active streets. This is one of the first major steps towards citywide zoning reform by creating regulations for more predictable development activity that aligns with the City’s goals.

To learn more about the Squares + Streets initiative, check out the Squares + Streets website for more information. Updates on the forthcoming draft zoning amendment and analysis work that is informing the amendment can be found on the Squares + Streets Zoning Districts page.

Interpretation will be provided in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, and Cape Verdean Creole. Additional interpreting services and document translation services are available upon request at no cost to you. Please request interpreting services no later than 5 days before the meeting date.
