The Harvard Enterprise Research Campus (ERC) is a proposed mixed-use district in the Allston neighborhood, owned by the Harvard Allston Land Company (HALC). The area spans from Western Ave to Cambridge Street, with a proposed greenway to connect from the Honan-Allston Branch Library up to the Western Avenue Bridge at the Charles River. This plan seeks to establish community vision and priorities for the area centered on equitable growth, transportation needs, resilience, and an accessible and active open space and public realm. The community engagement process will help shape the design and activation of the greenway and codify development regulations, community benefits, and urban design guidelines to inform future development within the study area.

The plan builds on a 2018 Harvard led visioning and community engagement process, which resulted in the ERC Framework Plan (“Framework Plan”), most recently updated in 2021. The Framework Plan, not adopted by the BPDA, remains a non-regulatory document that established district level planning context for the initial Phase A 14-acre development in the ERC. The planning principles, street network, greenway concepts, and open space network identified in the Framework Plan will be important considerations in the development of the Project. They will be advanced and refined with other existing studies and data through the community process to create a plan for public adoption.

Harvard ERC District and Greenway Draft Plan

The Planning Department is pleased to announce the release of the draft of the Harvard ERC District and Greenway plan. This plan envisions a mixed-use district between Western Avenue and Cambridge Street in Allston-Brighton.

This plan will:

  • Build on the 2021 Framework Plan and Phase A of the Harvard ERC to guide future development and strengthen connections to Allston-Brighton

  • Create a long-term, community driven vision that supports a vibrant neighborhood with jobs, housing, small businesses, and a resilient Greenway with public open space
