Board approves Christian Science Plaza PDA Master Plan

Aug 18, 2011

On Tuesday, the Board voted unanimously to approve the Master Plan for Planned Development Area No. 80 (PDA Master Plan) which proposed the long-term revitalization and development of the 15-acre Christian Science Plaza.  The PDA Master Plan is the result of a two-year planning process with the Citizens Advisory Committee.   A milestone, this revitalization is part of the Church’s plan to build three mixed-use buildings, which are envisioned to include office, retail, residential, hotel uses, and parking.  The Plan proposes that the new buildings of 950,000 s.f. will be located on Huntington Avenue and the intersection of Belvidere and Dalton Streets.  In addition, the Church envisions a small pavilion and the reconstruction of the 686-foot-long Reflecting Pool.  While preserving Boston’s history, the Church seeks to create more open public space to be used year-round and improve environmental sustainability efforts.   Earlier this year, part of the plaza was designated a historic landmark.  On September 14, 2011, the Plan will be reviewed by the Boston Zoning Commission in a public hearing.  If approved, the three buildings the Church would like to be developed will need to go through individual Article 80 reviews.  For more information on the Christian Science Plaza planning process, click here.
