Mayor Menino Welcomed New Companies to Boston's Innovation District

Apr 07, 2011

Mayor Thomas M. Menino kicked off the City’s first New Business Appreciation Series; a series of welcome events highlighting new businesses and retailers in three of Boston’s hottest emerging neighborhoods: the Innovation District, Downtown Crossing, and Back Bay.  The first in the series highlighted Boston’s Innovation District, welcoming over 42 new businesses to the area at an event held at Boston Technologies. Over 90 new places to work, shop and dine have opened in these three neighborhoods alone over the last year.  Mayor Menino will continue to meet new business owners this month to thank them for investing in Boston and welcome them to the City.   “Businesses continue to choose Boston as their home, from the rapidly expanding Innovation District to an influx of international and national retailers in Downtown Crossing and Back Bay,” Mayor Menino said.  “The South Boston Waterfront is just one area of the city that offers opportunity for all sized companies and I am proud to say that in the past year, we have added over 1,900 jobs in the South Boston Waterfront alone.”   The South Boston Waterfront has quickly emerged into Boston’s hot spot for the clean-tech industry, technology companies, world class restaurants and entrepreneurs alike. Companies ranging from law firms like Fish & Richardson to technology companies like Aisle Buyer to co-working incubators like Greentown labs, have all made Boston’s Innovation District their home over the past year. Restaurateurs are also investing in South Boston’s waterfront. Temazcal Tequilla Cantin will be opening their doors at the new Liberty Wharf this weekend, joining seven other restaurants that have opened in the South Boston Waterfront over the past year.   “As a high-growth organization, we were looking for a location that would allow us to attract to premier talent, offered proximity to our customers and the ability to leverage the cities outstanding public transportation,” said Boston Technologies CEO and Founder George Popescu. “The Innovation District was the ideal location for our business, the rapid growth of restaurants is very promising for the future of this area.”   Boston Technologies is an innovative leading provider of software, solutions, services and trading platforms to institutional and retail brokerage firms in the foreign exchange, CFD (contracts for difference), commodities, futures and options marketplace.  To date Boston Technology’s early success has been based on the continuous refinement of three core principles: Client Focus, Team Development and Dynamic Innovation.   The Mayor will continue his New Business Appreciation Series on Wedensday, April 13, 2011, welcoming new businesses to Downtown Crossing.
