Children's Hospital Breaks Ground on New Clinical Building Expansion

Nov 30, 2010

New “Skinny Binney” to expand Emergency Department, Radiology and other clinical specialties November 30, 2010. Children’s Hospital Boston broke ground on a new 10-story 125,000 square foot clinical expansion building. Located on Binney Street, the building will be linked on each floor to the Hospital’s current main clinical building. The 120,000 square foot, 10 floor building will include 12 new Emergency Department beds; 8 short stay observation beds; 44 single bed inpatient rooms and an expanded Radiology Department. The expansion will greatly improve the experience for patients and families and create more efficient space in which clinicians can deliver care. “In recent years, Children’s has seen an increase in patient volume at all levels. The Binney Street expansion helps us better and more efficiently meet the needs of our patients,” said Dr. James Mandell, CEO of Children’s Hospital Boston. “It is critical that the hospital continually reinvest in projects that expand our ability to serve our dual role as the community hospital of the children of Boston and the region’s specialty pediatric hospital.”
