City to Host 2nd PoweredUp International Game Industry Conference on October 14-15

Aug 09, 2010

The Boston Redevelopment Authority is proud to announce that the PoweredUp conference is returning to Boston on October 14-15, 2010. The conference will be held at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel in the city's emerging Innovation District. The BRA's CreateBoston program, in partnership with its game steering committee, academic institutions, game companies and the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), is hosting the two-day international conference to bring together independent game developers to share best practices and address the challenges and opportunities facing the local videogame industry. The agenda will focus on education curriculum development standards, business development tools, best practices for business incubators, live/workspaces models, funding sources, production and will also include international game competitions, networking, tours of local hotspots and the Innovation District.

For more information or to register for the conference, visit www.poweredupboston.com. You can also follow the conference on http://twitter.com/poweredupboston  or join the PoweredUp Boston Facebook group.

In 2007, the City hosted the first PoweringUp Conference at Northeastern University thanks to partial funding from the Mass. Cultural Council. Following the conference, both Northeastern University and BU’s Metropolitan College launched master’s programs in interactive media and game design. Additionally, the creation of the two new tools, a new game industry website and established the first Boston-area Steering Committee, were direct results from that conference. The 2010 conference is also made possible through a $30,000 in matching grant from Mass. Cultural Council and private sponsors.
