BRA Board Approves New East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, South Bay Target Expansion, Allocates Funds for Green Retrofit Program

Mar 16, 2010

The BRA Board approved the proposal for a new East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) tonight. The new facility will be located at 18-20 Maverick Square, complementing the new MBTA station and transforming a current parking lot. The $20 million, LEED Silver facility will allow for the creation of 31 additional exam rooms, create 48 new permanent jobs and 175 construction jobs. The project also includes 1,000 square feet of ground-floor retail. The facility is able to move forward thanks in part to an ARRA grant that EBNHC won. It is expected that the project will break ground in June 2010.

The Board also approved an expansion proposal by Target for its South Bay Shopping Center location. Target will expand the store by 27,000 square feet.

Additionally, the Board authorized the allocation of $1 million in affordable housing funds to support the green retrofitting of multi-family affordable housing units in the city. Click here for more information.
