On December 19, 2019, the Public Improvement Commission approved the name change of Roxbury’s Dudley Square to Nubian Square after a public hearing. Moving forward, the BPDA will refer to PLAN: Dudley Square as PLAN: Nubian Square, formerly known as PLAN: Dudley Square.
Draft Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
In the Nubian Square area there are many vacant and underutilized properties whose potential future uses have been discussed with the community. PLAN: Nubian Square began in early 2016 as a community engagement process to revisit the goals of the Roxbury Strategic Master Plan. To realize the vision for an economically empowered Nubian Square, the Boston Planning & Development Agency, City of Boston, and State of Massachusetts agreed to leverage their real estate assets in the area for explicitly community oriented development projects.
The conclusion of the PLAN: Nubian Square will result in the release of a series of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) that outline the development objectives and guidelines. The PLAN: Nubian Square Process Overview document is currently being finalized.
