Stair Improvements work take place in the building's two main egress stairs. The stairs are original to the 1887-built building and are of wood (heavy-timber framed) construction. The project will remove Asbestos-containing flooring, and improve the stair's structural integrity, guardrails and handrails, lighting, floor and stair tread finishes. The building trades necessary for this work include asbestos remediation, demolition and disposal, structural steel fabrication, light gauge framing and drywall, carpentry, painting and flooring, electrical and general construction. Off-hours work will likely be required for a portion of this work so that fully-occupied floors are not disrupted and an agressive schedule is met.
