The BRA’s Passenger Water Transportation Plan for Boston Inner Harbor provides guidance for the enhancement and expansion of the water transit system in Boston Harbor. The need for new urban transit modes and expansion of water transportation services attest to the growing appeal of water travel and harbor access by boat for residents, commuters, and visitors. To accommodate anticipated future demand for ferry transit the Plan focuses on expanding the capacity and quality of Boston’s water transportation terminals and associated intermodal connections. All of Boston's waterfront communities were analyzed and future water transit service, routes and infrastructure prioritized to realize the full potential of water transit in the City.
