Boston Planning & Development Agency disburses $10,000 in community benefits from Roxbury project to local nonprofits

Nov 02, 2021

The Boston Planning & Development Agency today announced the disbursement of $10,000 in community benefits to three local nonprofits as a result of the development at One Newcomb Place in Roxbury. The original project, completed in August 2021, created 23 new rental units. These benefits are often determined through the Article 80 public process of development by the Impact Advisory Group, which focuses on community needs.

The three nonprofits that are being awarded this money include the Pine Street Inn ($2500), Grant A.M.E. Church ($5000), and YouthBuild Boston, Inc.($2500).

The Grant A.M.E. Church on Washington Street will be putting the funding toward roof repairs.

YouthBuild, a nonprofit which aims to help at-risk youth by involving them in construction and trades, will use the funding to further those goals by putting it towards training and necessary gear.

“We are committed to empowering and assisting underserved youth from the Boston area with the essential social, vocational, academic and life skills necessary to navigate a pathway toward self-sufficiency,” said Executive Director of YouthBuild Boston, Brian McPherson. “With funding from the One Newcomb Project, we paid for OSHA 10 training classes for our Building Trades Exploration and Pre-Apprentice students. Some of the funds also helped purchase working gear for our students to ensure they are adequately prepared for vocational training in the field."
