Now available: Latest application for Fenway Community Benefits Funding

Apr 19, 2017

In October 2015 the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA), then the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA), announced that after piloting a successful standardized application process for community benefit funds in South Boston, a similar approach would be taken for releasing funds for other neighborhoods, starting with the Fenway neighborhood.

The first five local nonprofit organizations to receive funding for Fenway-based projects were announced in February 2016 and received $180,000 for the beautification of the neighborhood as part of an agreement made with the Boston Red Sox in 2013.

Today, the latest application for the Fenway Park Demonstration Project community benefits fund was made available. For this round of funding, $100,000 will be disbursed and applicants can request funding up to $100,000.

Applicants are required to submit a plan to the BPDA that describes how their organization will utilize the community benefit funds in order to positively impact the Fenway community, in accordance with the following objectives:
  • Applicant's services must benefit the Fenway Neighborhood.
  • Applicant’s services must be a public beautification project, either temporary or permanent, that is fully accessible to all members of the public.
All awards will be subject to BPDA Board authorization, and chosen applicants will be required to enter into a grant agreement with the BPDA. The BPDA sets forth basic objectives against which the plan and the applicant's performance under the plan will be evaluated. The applicant must state how it will pursue these objectives.
