Report Gives New Insights into Fairmount Corridor

The Fairmount Indigo Planning Initiative Corridor Profile provides a comprehensive social and economic profile of the 9.2 mile Fairmount Indigo Commuter Rail line corridor. It includes current data and trends on demographics, businesses, real estate, infrastructure, and quality of life that will be used to inform Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s ongoing Fairmount Indigo Planning Initiative. The BRA encourages community members, elected officials, planners, investors, researchers, and others to take a look at the wealth of information this document provides. Sample of Fairmount Corridor Profile Facts:
  • The corridor houses almost 1/5 of the City of Boston’s population.
  •  70.4% of the corridor’s population lives and works in Boston.
  • Residential uses make up the vast majority of the corridor.
  •  21% of the housing along the corridor is affordable.
  • 55% of corridor residents take a car to work.
  • The corridor is home to 16 community centers, 5 Boston Public Library branches, and 35 Boston Public Schools.
The Fairmount Corridor profile was prepared by the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) with the assistance of the City of Boston’s Department of Neighborhood Development (DND) and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC).
