Hotels for D Street

Dec 20, 2012

The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) filed plans to add two, mid‐priced hotels, a parking garage, and ground-floor retail to a site across from the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC) in the Innovation District.  As only 1,700 hotel rooms are within walking distance to the BCEC, many conferences must bus their attendees from downtown hotels. If approved, this project expands the number of hotel rooms. The MCCA’s proposal would create 370 construction jobs, 175 permanent jobs, and generate $6.5 million of new tax revenue annually. Details on D Street Development
  • 5.6 acre lot on D Street
  • 250-key limited service hotel
  • 250-key extended stay hotel
  • Approx. 26,300 SF of ground-floor retail in a 1,350 car garage
With additional hotel rooms and a proposed expansion, the MCCA is seeking to advance Boston into the top five in ranking of convention destinations in North America.  Currently, Boston ranks 9th nationally in its ability to attract and conduct convention business, but it only ranks 26th in size as a convention site.  In 2011, the MCCA hosted 237 events between the Hynes and the BCEC with 622,854 attendees generating 446,596 hotel room nights and $520 million in economic impact.  For more information, go to www.t5boston.com.
