Mayor Menino Continues New Business Appreciation Series in Downtown Crossing

Apr 13, 2011

Welcome event highlights more than 40 new retailers and businesses in downtown shopping district  Mayor Thomas M. Menino welcomed more than 40 new businesses to Downtown Crossing at the second event in the City’s New Business Appreciation Series.  The series of welcome events highlights new businesses and retailers in three of Boston’s hottest emerging neighborhoods: the Innovation District, Downtown Crossing, and Back Bay.  Over 100 new places to work, shop and dine have opened in these three neighborhoods alone over the last year.  Mayor Menino will continue to meet new business owners this month to thank them for investing in Boston and welcome them to the City.   The Downtown Crossing event was held at Scholars American Bistro. “Downtown Crossing is experiencing an exciting transformation. With the opening of two new theaters, a new business improvement district, and many new restaurants moving into the area, the future is very bright here,” Mayor Menino said.  “Small business owners are investing in Downtown Crossing because they believe the best is yet to come.”  “We had been thinking of opening another restaurant for a few years now, and when this location became available we couldn't pass it up,” said Scholars American Bistro owner Will McCarthy.  “To be able to open in such a historic area of the city, on the Freedom Trail no less, was an amazing opportunity. We're thrilled to be part of this tradition, and hope that in ten years' time Scholars is a neighborhood institution.”  Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Sam Carlyle and William McCarthy have, between the two of them, nearly 50 years of experience in the bar and restaurant industry. They opened Emmet’s Pub in 2002, a neighborhood pub done in a classic Irish style. In 2005, the owners opened, 6B Lounge, adjacent to Emmet’s, offering patrons a modern, lounge alternative to Emmet’s more traditional atmosphere. The owners purchased Crossroads Irish Pub in 2005, undertaking a massive renovation project. Scholars American Bistro will be their fourth restaurant in Boston. The Mayor will continue his New Business Appreciation Series on Thursday, April 28, 2011, welcoming new businesses to the Back Bay. List of New Businesses in Downtown Crossing:
