The Boston Marine Industrial Park (BMIP), now known as the Raymond L. Flynn Marine Park, is owned by the Economic Development and Industrial Corporation (EDIC). The park, formerly an Army and Naval base, extends 191 acres along the South Boston Waterfront. The area was nearly empty and abandoned until the land was granted to the EDIC between 1977 and 1983.

Since then the area has been identified as a prime location for consolidating, preserving, and growing Boston's ocean trade, maritime industries and industrial uses. Creating and protecting jobs that pay decent wages for people at a variety of skill levels is a primary goal of businesses in the park. Based on the master plan for the area, at this time 74% of the park is used/reserve for maritime industrial purposes, 22% is used for industrial, and 4% is commercial. A wide variety of tenants occupy the area, including beer brewers, research facilities, and seafood processing and wholesaling facilities.

In February 2016, the BMIP was renamed to honor the legacy of former ambassador and mayor of the City of Boston Raymond L. Flynn. Mayor Flynn held office from 1983 until 1993, when President Bill Clinton appointed him Ambassador to the Holy See. Mayor Flynn, who is a native of South Boston with deep family ties to maritime commerce, is widely credited with reviving the industrial port and preserving blue-collar jobs. The recommendation to rename the area to the Raymond L. Flynn Marine Park was made by Mayor Martin J. Walsh and a special commission formed by the Boston City Council.

The EDIC's offices are located at 22 Drydock Avenue, Suite 201, in Raymond L. Flynn Park.
