Roxbury square dedicated in memory of former BRA Chairman Dr. Clarence "Jeep" Jones

Mayor Kim Janey, Boston Planning & Development Agency Director Brian Golden, and other community leaders, gathered in Roxbury Friday, August 6, 2021 to dedicate a square to Dr. Clarence "Jeep" Jones. 

Dr. Jones was a long time activist in the City of Boston, as well as a member of the Boston Redevelopment Authority Board for 35 years. He served as chairman for 24 of those years.

Dr. Jones was a youth and well as civil rights activist, working to make Boston a more inclusive city.

Throughout his 35-year career in public and community service, Jones's commitment and contributions to Boston and its communities was reflected in his many longtime affiliations with civic, church, youth, and charitable organizations.

Dr. Jones was also the first and only African American to be appointed Deputy Mayor of the City of Boston.

The square can be found at the corner of M.L.K. Jr. Boulevard and Washington Street.
