Director Golden and BRA staff take leading role at ABX 2015

This week Boston Redevelopment Authority Director Brian Golden and staff played an important role at ABX 2015, a major building industry convention produced by the Boston Society of Architects which took place at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. Director Golden, along with BRA planning, institutional development, and urban design staff, and BRA board member Ted Landsmark, came together with leading area architects, planners, developers and building professionals in eight sessions covering myriad aspects of Boston’s designed and built environment.
 
Director Golden, Deputy Director for Urban Design David Carlson, Acting Director of Planning Tad Read, and Senior Architect/Urban Designer Corey Zehngebot kicked off the three-day event on Tuesday with the presentation “Building the New Boston Redevelopment Authority”, focusing on the BRA’s role in reinventing the process of development and planning in Boston. Director Golden also weighed in on Wednesday regarding “The Politics of Design in Boston”, a panel discussion examining the relationship of government policy to urban design and planning.
 
Also on Wednesday, Senior Project Manager/Planner Gerald Autler joined architectural experts in exploring institutional housing prototypes and the growth of student housing options in the panel “Connecting Campus & Community: New Forms for Student Housing”.

Ted Landsmark, BRA board member and former president of the Boston Architectural College, acted as respondent in the session “UK's Built Environment Professional Education Project - A Commitment to Inclusive Design”. The discussion highlighted the importance of inclusive design policies for architects, planners, surveyors and engineers.

Senior Advisor for Long Term Planning Prataap Patrose, and Senior Architect/Urban Designer David Grissino, navigated the landscape of architecture and the role of institutions in Boston in the session “Institutional Buildings and the Image of Contemporary Boston”. Grissino also elaborated on the background, process, and outcomes of the Avenue of the Arts Design Guidelines Study in “Collective Thinking: A Vision for the Avenue of the Arts” on Tuesday.

John Dalzell, a senior architect with interest in developing policy and programs in support of environmental goals, detailed his experience with sustainable initiatives in the sessions “Answers & More Questions from Boston Living with Water” and “Crossing Over the Line: Energy Positive Green Buildings Now!
