Sharing Workforce Development Ideas Across Departments

On March 1st, the Mayor’s Office of Jobs and Community Services (JCS) and the Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) convened the latest Boston Workforce Issues Forum.  JCS and the Boston PIC invited the BRA’s Deputy Director for Research, Mark Melnik, to speak to a group of over 50 workforce development professionals from across the City.  Mark’s talk was entitled Assessing the Role of Industrial and Economic Change on Regional Economic Health- A Case Study of Greater Boston and considered issues of skills mismatch, unemployment, job vacancies, and potential labor shortages in the regional labor market.  What resulted was a lively and interesting discussion about job opportunities for workers of all levels of education in the region and how those issues may change in the near future.
