BRA Unveils Greenway District Planning Study Draft Recommendations

Mar 19, 2010

On Thursday, March 18th, at the sixth public meeting to discuss the Greenway District Planning Study, the BRA unveiled draft recommendations for 19 potential development sites within roughly two blocks on either side of the Greenway between Kneeland Street and the Bulfinch Triangle.

Along with developing performance standards and zoning for key redevelopment sites, the study provides ways to ensure that all new development enhances, not detracts from the Rose Kennedy Greenway and Boston Harbor.

The draft recommendations ensure that any new development will preserve and enhance the Greenway as a major public open space asset in the city. The Greenway is so valuable to the quality of life, environment and economic value of our financial district and downtown that we must protect the asset and direct growth in a way that does not detract from its value to the city of Boston.

These are guidelines that we will use until we can codify them into the Zoning Code.
