Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is located in the cluster of medical, academic, and research institutions which comprise the Longwood Medical and Academic Area of Boston. BIDMC dates backs to 1896, when New England Deaconess Hospital was founded. New England Deaconess merged with Beth Israel Hospital (founded 1916) to form BIDMC in 1996.
The 2013 BIDMC IMP Amendment was approved by the Boston Redevelopment Authority Board on November 14, 2013 and by the Boston Zoning Commission on December 11, 2013.
Today this 631-bed hospital is one of the largest hospitals in New England and receives over $200 million in research funding annually.
