BLDC works with local Southie couple to help open new salon

Mar 23, 2017

On March 23, 2017, the Boston Local Development Corporation (BLDC) closed a $150,000 loan to open a new South Boston hair salon. The salon, called Love and Mercy Salon, will be located on the ground floor of the new Aloft Hotel on D Street. BLDC staff also worked with East Boston Savings Bank to secure additional financing for the project.  Construction should be completed in the late spring.

Love and Mercy Salon is owned by Patty Martin Scheidel and her husband Josh Scheidel. Patty has been working in South Boston as a hair colorist for years and was the selectee for the 2016 Boston Herald award for Best Redhead Color. She has studied trends in hair styling throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. She’s also a member of the North America Davines Artistic Team. Josh is currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard, is a Petty Officer First Class, and has been stationed in Boston since 2006.

Patty and Josh originally hailed from Texas, but they have now made South Boston their home. The couple are 10-year residents and homeowners in the neighborhood and are proud parents of a two year old son. They are committed to their adopted neighborhood, and are active members of the South Boston community. In fact, Josh volunteers at Excel High School assisting freshman students with algebra lessons and the couple plans on filling at least four of the salon’s 11 new jobs with neighborhood residents.

The salon will offer men and women a haven in which to relax and experience expert services in a relaxing and therapeutic atmosphere.  The owners’ goal, beyond becoming a profitable business, is ensuring that they are providing a trusted destination whereby clients in the community will receive the highest quality hair services with superior customer service.
