Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s ONEin3 Council is partnering with Artists for Humanity to host Art with Heart, an evening of collective art creation in the former Holy Trinity Church located in the heart of the South End on Shawmut Avenue next Thursday, March 12, from 7-10 p.m.

The gathering will bring together young adults from across Boston to participate in the creation of an abstract mural painting of Boston, while making connections and building community.

The mural creation will be led by three of Artists for Humanity’s most talented young artists, and all proceeds from the event will go towards Artists for Humanity’s mission of providing underserved Boston youth with the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in the arts.

The event is an effort to support Mayor Walsh’s vision of cultivating artists and creativity in Boston.  The group will be joined by the Mayor’s Chief of Staff Dan Koh and the City of Boston’s newly appointed Chief of Arts and Culture Julie Barros. Yesterday, the Mayor welcomed the 37 new members of the 2015 ONEin3 Council.

The former sanctuary will be adorned with paintings, prints, photography, and sculpture art from ten of Artists for Humanity’s own artists.

This event is an effort to temporarily activate the church before it is redeveloped for housing. Construction on the 80,000 square foot German Trinity Catholic Church is expected to start as early as the summer of 2015.  The completed transformation will contain more than 30 residences.

Organizers are requesting donations of $20 per person for admission to the event. All proceeds will help support the work of Artists for Humanity.
