Mayor Walsh and Economic Development Chief Barros Tour the Dudley Municipal Center

Mayor Walsh and John Barros, the newly appointed Chief of Economic Development for the City of Boston, toured the Dudley Municipal Center on Tuesday. The hard hat tour highlighted how critical the $115 million public investment being made in the centerpiece of Dudley Square is to revitalizing the neighborhood and moving nearby private development forward. In addition, Walsh and Barros walked through the 18,000 square feet of ground floor retail space that is part of the Dudley Retail RFP due February 28th, 2014. More than 100 people have downloaded the RFP.
 
There is more than half a billion dollars of private investor interest in Dudley Square.
  • Bartlett Place, the former MBTA bus yard on Washington Street is approved. The $137M mixed-use development contains approximately 62,500 SF of retail and 300+ residential units. The project is being developed by Nuestra CDC / Windale.
  • Phase I of the Parcel 10 project at the corner of Melnea Cass and Washington Street is under construction. The $52 million project is being developed by Madison Tropical. Phase One is a 40,000 square foot Tropical Foods grocery store. Phase Two includes housing, retail and office.
  • The Melnea Hotel and Residences at Parcel 9 at the corner of Melnea Cass and Washington Street is slated for a$50M hotel and residences. The project is being developed by Urbanica, LLC.
  • Tremont Crossing on Parcel 3 located next to the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center on Tremont Street is tentatively designated for the $300 million Tremont Crossing project. The 1.6 million SF project includes retail, residential,  office space, and a museum.  The developer, P3 Partners LLC, has a tentative designation.
