Capital Access Experts and Boston Entrepreneurs Gather at BRA Workshop

Nov 27, 2013

Last Friday, November 22, the Business Development Division of the BRA sponsored and ran an Access to Capital Workshop at the new District Hall in the Innovation District

In an effort to provide entrepreneurs and businesses with the information they need to start, grow and succeed, the workshop was intended to assist attendees as they navigate the sometimes complex world of financial access.  This was the pilot event in what the Business Development Division believes will be a series of workshops offered in different parts of the city over the coming months.

The workshop was planned by Rich Pellagrini, CleanTech Senior Manager, who also served as introductory speaker and moderator for the event. The event included four experienced and respected speakers with expertise in different areas of capital access. They were:

The speakers took turns talking about their own piece of the financial access spectrum: Mark discussed bank financing and the importance of a good business plan, Ben outlined the differences between angel and venture investing, Shereen discussed the crowd funding wave and how to participate in it, and Ted talked from the perspective of someone who had used all of these resources to start and grow his company.  Significant time was left at the end of the program for one on one discussions with the speakers, and follow up was encouraged.
