Research Division Hosts 17 Census Trainings, Plans More

Feb 14, 2013

The BRA’s Research Division and U.S. Census Bureau have provided 17 free trainings on their interactive census data tools to 279 data users since the trainings began in July of 2012. The trainings are provided on-site to nonprofits, colleges and universities, media outlets, government agencies and more. Organizations that have already taken advantage of the trainings include: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Boston Police Department, Cradles to Crayons, Univision, and more. Attendees range from students and faculty at colleges and universities to case managers and grant writers of local community organizations. The trainings teach attendees how to access the most current demographic and economic data for their communities using web based tools developed by the  BRA and the U.S. Census Bureau, including MyNeighborhood Census Viewer and American Fact Finder.  Trainings will continue to be offered throughout the spring, with five more already scheduled through March and April for staff from the Boston Public Library, State Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz’s office and more. To request a “Your Community by the Numbers” workshop, please contact Kelly Dowd, Research Manager, Boston Redevelopment Authority, at [email protected] or 617-918-4474.
