The Boston University Medical Campus, located in Boston's historic South End neighborhood, encompasses the Boston University School of Medicine, School of Public Health, Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, and Division of Graduate Medical Sciences of the School of Medicine. The schools offer a particular focus on serving disadvantaged, underserved, and indigent populations. The institution employs more than 1,341 faculty members and trains a diverse group of more than 3,000 students. Boston University Medical Campus has a rich history dating back to 1848, when it began as the New England Female Medical College. It was the first institution in the United States to offer medical education to women and the first to graduate a black female physician. In 1873, the medical college merged with Boston University, becoming the first coeducational medical school in the nation. The Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine and the School of Public Health were founded in 1976. BU Medical Campus has proposed a new IMP for the 2021-2031 term.
